This compilation of the most beautiful Italian arias, ariettas, and canzonettas of the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries provides all classically trained singers with a requisite repertoire of music in a single volume of exceptional quality and variety.Representing the finest work of 30 masters of that important era, these short
pieces form a superb introduction to learning and understanding the historic bel canto singing style, with emphasis on perfecting vocal technique and tonal beauty. Included are such lyrical and ardent favorites as Caccini's "Amarilli, mia bella," Caldara's "Sebben, crudele," Giordani's "Caro mio ben," Gluck's "O del mio dolce ardor," Handel's "Ah! mio cor," Monteverdi's "Lasciatemi morire!" Paisiello's "Chi vuol la zingarella," Pergolesi's "Se tu m'ami se sospiri," Vivaldi's "Un certo non so che," and 21 other classics. Singing texts are both in Italian and in English. Additional French texts are given for songs by Martini and Piccinni.
